YLighting Launches Marcel Wanders’ Pattern Play Design Contest
Walnut Creek, Calif. (PRWEB) November 02, 2011
YLighting, FLOS and Marcel Wanders create a design competition for the exclusive online launch of the Can Can Pendant Light.
To mark the exclusive online retail launch of Marcel Wanders’ Can Can Pendant Light for FLOS on YLighting.com, the two companies have partnered with Wanders to organize a design contest using the signature inner-pattern of the lamp.
The Pattern Play Design Contest calls on design lovers to create the most interesting application of this pattern for a chance to win monetary prizes and FLOS Can Can lights. Entrants will also get in front of some of world’s most important design tastemakers, as Marcel Wanders, Piero Gandini, CEO, FLOS and Sean Callahan, CEO, YLighting, will select the best applications of the pattern among all entries.
“We want others to be inspired by Marcel Wanders and create something unique with his new Can Can pattern,” said Callahan, CEO, YLighting. “There is really no limit to how they can use the pattern—we imagine entrants stitching it onto shirts, carving it into a tree, projecting it onto a building or shaving it into their heads. This is truly a great opportunity for entrants to have their name associated with Wanders.”
Unique pattern application entries will be accepted until January 15, 2012 online. Winners will be announced on February 1, 2012. The first place entry will receive $2,500 and a FLOS Can Can Light, second place will receive $1,000 and a FLOS Can Can Light and third place will receive $500 and a FLOS Can Can Light. Five runner-ups will receive a FLOS Can Can Light.
Marcel Wanders, one of world’s leading industrial designers, designed the Can Can Pendant Light, which will launch for the first time on YLighting.com. Like many of Wanders’ designs, the light brings together simple, clean and linear forms with intricate patterns that draw from tradition.
The Can Can is “a dancing, seductive lamp, which only shows her hidden secrets from a more private position,” said Wanders.
The solid minimalist shell of the lamp acts as a container for a sophisticated decorative effect. When turned on, light filters through the floral pattern made of polycarbonate to change and turn into a delicate glow.
